Volunteer Stories
A group of very kind Australian women who call themselves the Guardian Angels paid for and sent a container full of hand-knitted garments including jerseys, tops, beanies, scarves, hats and socks to the City Mission following the earthquakes of 2011. These items are for the children of Christchurch to keep them warm during the cold, wintry months. The container also provided new blankets and hot water bottles with hand-knitted covers. Our volunteers have been busy distributing these garments, especially since winter announced its arrival in Christchurch with a snow storm!
Pat, has been a volunteer on reception at the City Mission since 2009. She works four hours per fortnight and, like other volunteers, is on call should we need further cover.
The Mission’s reception is a busy area and Pat enjoys interacting with the our many clients and its friendly staff. Her voluntary role enables her to use her skills as a telephonist and receptionist. She likes the opportunity of giving something back to the Community and particularly respects the non-judgmental ethos of the Mission.
