The Alcohol and Other Drug services at the Christchurch City Mission are responsive to the needs of clients who present with alcohol and drug and co-existing mental health conditions wanting to make changes in their substance misuse.
The City Mission provides residential and home-based detoxification, individual youth and adult counselling, a women’s day programme, community mental health nurse support, and supported accommodation in a community setting.
Our services
Withdrawal Management
This service offers people the opportunity to detox at home or in other community settings. Our specialist withdrawal management nurses work with the client’s own general practitioner.

Youth and Adult
Alcohol and Other Drug Service
People over the age of 13 years are offered counselling and case management in order to reduce the harm caused by their alcohol or other substance misuse. Assessment and referral to residential or other outpatient alcohol and drug services is provided if required.

Wahine Whai Ora
Women’s Alcohol and Drug Service and Day Programme
Wahine Whai Ora is a women’s day programme for those who want to make changes to their alcohol and drug misuse. Women work in groups and in individual counselling settings using the model of recovery most suited to their individual needs. The women also participate in other life skill development programmes.

Thorpe House
Thorpe House is a residential service providing a safe, supportive environment for people with alcohol and other drug dependence to detox from their substance of choice. There are 10 beds for women and men over the age of 17 years who meet criteria.

Health Nurse
The City Mission Community Mental Health nurse works across all City Mission services including the men’s and women’s night shelters. People with complex physical and mental health conditions are helped and supported to improve their lives.

Elm Tree Lodge
This is supported accommodation for people recovering from alcohol and other drug misuse. The City Mission supervises a villa in a tranquil setting and works alongside people as they re-integrate into the wider community.
