    About the Position

We support the view that housing is a human right, and we demonstrate that commitment every day. Most importantly, we never give up. We believe everyone must have a home to live in and the right to live their best life.

Our accommodation services for homeless men and women are a vital piece of this picture, linking those who need it with a range of relevant services. Demand for our services is growing due to the challenges Aotearoa New Zealand is facing. An exciting part of our response was the development of our new 15-bed transitional housing facility which fills a missing and important intermediate step in moving from emergency accommodation to successful permanent housing. You can read more about our new development on our website: https://www.citymission.org.nz/news/why-whakaora-kinga-is-so-special.

Our team is seeking people with heart, life experience and the desire to grow, to support both our emergency and transitional accommodation facilities. Ideal Appointee

    • Passion for our community is key, with a commitment to social justice values and ending homelessness

    • Homelessness is often just a symptom of other challenges someone may be living with, so the desire to support people living with mental illness and addictions is essential

    • Level 3 or 4 social service qualifications are helpful, but not a necessity, a willingness to learn is a must

    • A sense of compassion and non-judgment, with the ability to relate to whānau from all walks of life

    • Confidence to support someone who is distressed and to diffuse challenging situations, using empathy and strong communication skills

    • An understanding of professional ethics and boundaries
