Our Christmas Day Lunch

Once again we are hosting the biggest Christmas Day party in Christchurch and we can’t wait to see everyone enjoying themselves.

This has been an extraordinary year where a Covid lockdown and its economic impact has put many people into crisis and created new pockets of crisis among people who haven’t needed our services before.

Our famous annual Christmas Day Lunch will be a chance to help these people and all the others who can’t afford to make the day special.

This year the Christmas Lunch is at the Linwood Rugby Club, 56 Kearneys Road, Bromley, Christchurch.

Working from the rugby clubrooms, we will create more than 1200 special Christmas meals. Most are for people and families coming together in the large marquee, but we will also create hundreds of takeaway boxes of food and meals for residents in our emergency shelters.

We couldn’t do it without the 350 wonderful volunteers will give up part of their Christmas Day to help us look after struggling people in our community.

It would also be impossible to put the lunch on without our many supporters and this year we welcome ASB Bank as our principal sponsor.

We are also grateful to our longstanding Christmas Day supporter, Hellers, which is donating 400kg ham on the bone and 2000 sausages.

Christchurch Mayor Lianne Dalziell will bring the traditional Christmas Cake and this year she is staying to serve tables.

The lunch begins at noon and concludes at 1.30pm after Father Christmas gives presents to hundreds of children.

Covid-19 precautions

This year we are taking special precautions to ensure that we host a responsible event. Anyone feeling unwell should not attend.

We will have five volunteers onsite collecting contact tracing information. They will offer QR codes for scanning and guests also have the option of signing in.
