'You have no idea what this means'

“You honestly don’t know how much this means to a child and a mother who have not bought a new school uniform before. Thank you for giving us a helping hand,” said the grateful young mother.

Coming into winter the boy was wearing second-hand and hand-me-down uniform items and badly needed a jersey and new shoes.

Under our Back to School Programme, he was able to get them. Sarah* acknowledged that the support her son had got was only possible because of our donors.

“I’m thankful my son was shown that even strangers can be generous with helping someone in need.”

The mum says the uniform cost had been a big worry. “At first, you think it will be easy to get a uniform, but one of each

item and you’re in the hundreds of dollars. I spoke to my son about it and from the start I told him I’d get him some new uniform when I could afford it and he understood. He told me, ‘it’s all good mum’. I like to be honest with my children about financial choices.”

When the boy was told he was going to get new uniform items his mum said he “was over the moon”.

“He was really excited about getting a jersey for winter. A jersey was one item that was hard to find second hand in good condition.”

“It was like a weight lifted off my shoulder and I felt so excited to be able to tell my son that we got approved.”
