Let’s give hope this Christmas
Christchurch City Missioner, Corinne Haines
A Christmas message from Christchurch City Missioner Corinne Haines.
As Christmas draws near, we all love to show generosity, compassion, and the joy of giving. But for many of the families that we support at the Mission, this season brings stress and uncertainty — the challenge of feeding the family at Christmas, or the challenge of buying even a single gift to place under the tree for their children.
Children facing hardship often notice the difference that their friends experience at Christmas, and it is confronting when they see television advertising focusing on the latest toys and games. For them the magic of Christmas seems out of reach.
But thanks to the people who support us with donations of money, food and toys, that magic is possible. The joy in a child’s eyes as they unwrap a present chosen for them and the smile on a parent’s face to see that joy, is a wonderful validation of your generosity towards the Mission.
It’s not simply about the gifts or food; it’s about dignity, hope, and the reassurance that someone cares about them. Someone who doesn’t even know them.
Your donations do make a difference. Each donation made during the year, and especially at Christmas, helps us to make a difference in the lives of many. We value the cash donations, the donations of food, the time offered by individual volunteers and corporate volunteers and the dedication of all our staff who especially at this time of the year work to ensure that we continue to support all who seek our help.
Together, we all show kindness, compassion, generosity and hope, so that every adult and every child that we support may experience the wonder of Christmas. Thank you for making that possible.
