Onwards and upwards

There’s growing excitement here at the City Mission as we look forward to how our new redevelopment is going to enhance how we change the lives of people we care for.

If you get the chance to drive down Hereford St, take a look at the buildings going up and imagine how satisfying it has been for our community of clients, volunteers and staff to see the future appearing before our eyes. We will have lots more to tell you about them in the coming months.

With our former City Missioner Matt Mark leaving us last month, we have been lucky enough to have retired businesswoman, St Barnabas Parish member and Ōtākaro Limited Chair Corinne Haines step in to help us.  She will be guiding the Mission while the search for a permanent City Missioner continues. Corinne will be working part-time. She was the former CEO of Trimble Navigation and was made a Companion to the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to business in 2016. She brings us a huge amount of knowledge in finance and people management along with a deep appreciation for the City Mission and a love for the work we do. We are so fortunate to have her.

The City Mission is governed by a Divisional Committee of the Anglican Care Trust Board and which will appoint the next City Missioner. Committee Chair Nalini Meyer says the Mission needs a leader who will continue the path we have embraced of lifting lives after dealing with immediate crises.

This is what our new redevelopment is all about.

“Our role in helping, caring and advocating for people in need in our city is going to become even  greater and more effective. That’s really exciting,” she says.
