What we do

The Christchurch City Mission was born in 1929 when a few caring volunteers handed out bowls of stew to 19 unemployed men. Today the Mission’s Foodbank provides tens of thousands of meals year, we offer emergency accommodation for men and women with nowhere else to go, we run day programmes for men and women to lift their life and work skills, we host a residential detox unit for people trying to quit alcohol or drugs, we employ social workers, addiction counsellors and a budget adviser, and we have an onsite medical unit.
